Choosing a career in repossession should not be decided easily. Prior to choosing this career while rewarding can be equally as dangerous. In fact in many instances a repossession career is more dangerous then a police career only because of ridiculous regulations stopping repomen from being able to protect themselves.
Some areas repossession can more dangerous then other areas but as jobs continue to be lost or pay continually getting lower people also tend to get more hostile in general. Have you ever noticed the spikes in violent crime during the holidays? Have you noticed the increases in violent crimes as of the recent years? I certainly have and there is no denying that repomen can be in the middle of real violent situation real quick due to the increased hostility. This doesn’t mean it was any easier in the past at all, it just means that in general people have been becoming more hostile due to the increase in job loss and nonsense going on in the current times.
A bulletproof vest should be mandatory for all of those choosing or working in repossessions.
Just this week alone I saw several violent news listings involved in repo.
AVON LAKE — A homeowner fired a gun into the ground as two repo men were attempting to tow a car at his home on Beachdale Drive, police said. The 48-year-old man came outside with a revolver and told the men to get off his property.
“It looked like there were some verbal threats that were made towards the persons looking to repossess the vehicle,” Sgt. Vince Molnar said.
“Obviously, he was angry or upset the repossession was occurring,” Molnar said. “The situation was kind of fast-paced and dynamic.”
Another one is North Carolina where the debtor tried to run over the repoman at the auto auction after following him there.
It wasn’t a gun shot, but getting run over and running from a crazed debtor isn’t fun.
